Railway Infrastructure Structural Engineer

Global Rail Construction Limited is part of the Global Infrastructure Group and is a leading UK provider of design and build services to clients in the rail and transportation sector.

The company is a principal contractor for UK mainline and metro railways across a number of disciplines, which include signalling, mechanical, electrical and power (MEP), telecoms, civil and structural engineering, maintenance, renewal, providing a fully tested and commissioned service, on both Network Rail and Transport For London controlled infrastructure.

We are seeking a Railway Infrastructure Structural Engineer to work full time from our Hatfield Office.

The role will see you working on all structural engineering aspects within a Design and Build team for varied projects ranging from signalling, telecoms and power projects to structural building design. You will be responsible for assisting in the delivery of project-related tasks to meet budget, programme and quality targets on London Underground & Network Rail projects.

Your duties will include:

  • Performing required activities associated with projects (investigation and design) in line with project requirements
  • Preparing and registering all relevant documentation and design reports and ensuring that all documentation is accurate
  • Maintaining on-going communication with relevant Project Leaders/Team Leaders and clients
  • Contributing to the resolution of technical issues on projects and providing technical guidance to other team members
  • Working in collaboration with other design disciplines to ensure the integrity of the overall design
  • Awareness of and familiarity with the commercial aspects of projects
  • Being familiar and compliant with relevant H & S regulations and to promote a culture of awareness within the team

Skills and Experience:

The role is ideally suited to career minded and technically advanced Engineers. To be considered for a role, you will need to demonstrate the following credentials:

  • BEng (Hons) degree qualified in an engineering discipline preferred (Civil engineering preferred)
  • Strong civil/structural design experience capability
  • 5 years’ post-graduate experience in the rail industry
  • Demonstrable experience minimum of 2 years’ experience with Bentley ProjectWise
  • Understanding and working use of Eurocodes, Network Rail and British Standards
  • Team worker able to work together as a team for the Group, not just the individual
  • Technical, analytical, and numerical design ability
  • Knowledge of Tedds software
  • Outstanding communication skills and demonstrable presentation skills
  • Chartered Engineer status
  • Flexibility to travel throughout the UK as and when required
  • Knowledge of Network Rail and London Underground Design and Build processes
  • Drainage, Piling and Temporary works experience essential
